I haven't visited this site in awhile, so excuse me if this topic has already been posted and discussed..just wondered what people were thinking and doing about the flu vaccine this year. My best friend is a doctor and she warned me that the upcoming flu season will be a bad one and suggested my entire family get the flu shot. My pediatrician is administering the regular flu vaccine but does not have information available about the H1N1 vaccine yet. Have people found a source for that vaccine? Do people think children should get that vaccine?

That's a good question. I'm thinking our family needs to do it, but I need to call my pediatrician. I have to admit I'm always nervous about injecting things into my child, even when it's designed to protect them. I realize this is a bit neurotic, and I wish I didn't feel this way, but I do.
That said, I did give my daughter vaccinations because I was concerned not doing so would be more dangerous, though I know some moms disagree with me on this.
So, I'm feeling the same way on the flu shot: I think she needs it because it will be better than no protection.

My pediatrician does think all children should get the H1N1 shot. My OB also thinks I should. I am very scared because it is a new shot and who realy knows what it can cause down the road. The whole slight mercury base scares me. What will it do to my daughter and my unborn baby. I am going to get the regular Flu Shot this year for the 1st time. I have had the flu once and it was a week before I delivered my daughter. I honestly wanted to die I felt so bad. I mean I have had other flu bugs as a kid but never can I remember feeling like that. We do get our daughter the flu shot every year. I guess because I am pregnant and a high risk pregnancy at that we will all get the flu shot and at least my daughter and I will get the H1N1 and hope for the best.

I've set up appointments for my kids to get a regular flu shot next week. The nurse at the peds office said that they didn't have any information about when they'll have the H1N1 shot (this was as of last week). Since my older son has anxiety, we'll give him the choice: shot or nasal mist, as long as they still have some nasal mist left. We'll see! It's way better than getting the flu.

So, I checked with our pediatrician on flu vaccines. Our office is still awaiting more seasonal flu vaccine, so we're on waiting list for clinic, yet to be scheduled.
We were told for the H1N1 vaccine, we should get it through our daughter's school because they are offering clinics.
The downside on the school route: The health department says no parents allowed. Not sure how I feel about someone I don't know injecting my child without me being there to provide comfort -- and make sure I feel comfortable.
Thoughts from others?

My daughter, who is nine, has had both the flu shots. We always get the seasonal flu shot but her doctor strongly recommended the H1N1 because she has asthma and is considered high risk.
I was concerned about the H1N1 shot but at some point I had to trust that the doctor knows whats best and I dont want to put my daughter at risk.
I understand why the schools wont let parents attend the shot clinic but makes you wonder how many families will opt not to have the shots because they cant be there. It can be a stressful thing for some children.
